Morning is full of sounds here... wild turkeys gobbling in the yard as they snarf up fallen bird seed and rake up loose ground in search of food. Flickers pecking the metal on the chimneys, calling for all the world to hear.  I laugh out loud. Birds singing their hearts out---it is mating season!

Coffee and poetry and the eyes of my heart are open.  A new day!

Sometimes I try to define an aesthetic or style that I like, or that I work with. Not that easy.  I love many styles and try them. My art quilts that are quite elaborate, yet I also love a certain type of minimalism, spare, clean, to the bone, to the heart of the matter. Here are 2 new pieces with this idea in mind.

This is a philodendron leaf photographed at the Denver Botanical Gardens. I wanted to depict just the essence and structure of it, a skeletal leaf.  Raw edge applique and somewhat minimal stitching.  There is no batting and backing on this but simply a stabilizer on the back.  Framing will fit this piece.

This is a cafe in Savannah, Georgia called the Gryphon Tea House.  I had a delightful afternoon tea there, with scrumptious scones. This was the view that faced me as I ate.  There were probably 7 or 8 chairs, all orange, strewn about in front of a dark wall, with a little table to the left. I've "sketched" it here with minimal detail.
