The Snake and the Bunny, a Tale of Feist
You know how you are driving or walking and you’re missing EVERYTHING around you because you’re lost in your head?
Me, this morning. I was cataloguing all the things I needed to do and feeling overwhelmed. I thought going back to bed seemed like a good plan.
Right in the middle of the road, I woke up from my mental gymnastics to see the tiniest little snake, coiled up and definitely alive. I stopped next to him, a giant in his world of seriously small. He was the size of a 6 inch strand of worsted yarn and his head was smaller than the nail on my pinkie. This little rascal raised his tiny head over and over and bit into the air to frighten me away. Fierce!
He would be dead meat soon on this road so I tried to sort out how to save him without getting hurt. He was just a garter snake but he was biting like crazy and had no good intentions for me. I picked him up gently with a stick and put him into the grass, as he rose up biting all the way.
A few blocks later, a bunny lay dead on the road, clearly hit by a car. Bunnies are timid. They freeze when scared. ( I know they want to go back to bed when overwhelmed. )
I am more a bunny than a snake. But that little snake today reminded me that even in the face of GIANT challenges, I can raise myself up and take on what scares me. It might just save me.
