I SO LUCKED OUT!


A Metà Ottobre

I chanced into CK Contemporary Gallery in San Francisco, a beautiful space filled with wonderful artwork.  

But it was Ottorino De Lucchi who captured my heart (and money) with his stunning still life works.

Tempo di Autunno

His pieces are miracles of light and color. Intimate. Technically astounding. Luminous. Gorgeous. And this is his avocation! His full time work is as a college professor and researcher in science. 

A Fine Ottobre

Somehow, with dry brush watercolor, he manages to paint the very heart of the object he sees and seemingly his own heart as well. I have never had a still life painting bring me to tears until I saw his work in person. They glow from within.

Dear Geri, I bumped into your fine blog while looking for my friend Ottorino latest news in S. Francisco. he told me about this gallery and the American fans he's got. And all you write is true....expecially when you say " They glow from within". I have a peony flower at home and a portrait of my eldest son by Ottorino! He also makes faboulous portraits! We both live in Padua very close to each other....but whilst he is a mentor in painting I am carrying out my carreer in these years as a multimedia/impressionist young painter of trees. If you ever happen to be here around it would be nice to meet all together... in the meanwhile...I guess web is the quickest way to virtually know each other. Ciao! IDa

Dear Ida,

How wonderful to hear from you! I fell in love with Ottorino's work in San Francisco. I walked into the gallery, stood in front of the still life paintings and started to weep. The owner, a lovely woman, showed me the huge book of his works, including portraits which were incredibly expressive and moving. I have only one of his works but both my husband and I would love to buy more when we can. the light is the key!

I would love to see your work! Do you have a website address you could send me? We were in Italy briefly last summer but didn't get to Padua. I loved Italy though and would love to return. Let's keep in touch. I'm thrilled to hear from you.

Ciao Ger,

I absolutely agree with you regarding Ottorino's works. i will let him know
about his fan on the other side of the ocean. My work is different in size
and techniques but merely we are both impressed by nature force and light
vibration... If he's more precise and analytic I am rough and out of focus
sometimes.... Anyways.. you can check some of my works (check sizes, are
very big) on www.idaharm.com or http://www.saatchiart.com/idaharm
by the way I absolutely loved your collection of images of people cutten
out of photographs....fantastic!

Hi Ida,

I would be so pleased if you would pass on my deep admiration to Ottorino. I am in awe.

I also love your work. My art loves are many but my heart belongs to expressionism. Your scenes are tender and contemplative. Very beautiful and loving. Trees are dear to me. I moved into my current home entirely because of the trees. Two of my favorite photographic works about trees are "Heartwood: Meditations on Southern Oaks" by William Guion and "Meetings with Remarkable Trees" by Thomas Pakenham---both stunning. When you were in the US did you by any chance have the opportunity to see the live oaks in the south? Awesome awesome trees. Queen trees.

I couldn't tell if there was a way to subscribe to your blog/diary. I'd love to keep in touch with what you are doing.

Hi Ger...
I know the second book you referred to. I have it here at home. I missed those oak trees though! but I loved the foliage in MA and NY states!
I do not have any newsletter/ blog but a facebook page where we can stay in touch... i usually post photos or new works!
